Belonging to Brookland Forge now let to Joseph [Tutl] for 5 Years which began 1st Day of May 1770 at Eight Tons of Bar Iron [per] Year w[hich] is worth Two hundred pounds with the use of the Land__ there is a good new House Forge Barn & Sundry out Houses Grist Mill & Saw Mill all Built about Two Years ago in the Strongest Manner that can Be built there is Two Dams Built of Stone & Wood Inside. In case the Lower D[a]m should at any time Give Way – which is[ no]t very Likely the upper Dam is very strong ___o to keep up the Lake which is called Seven ___iles long & said to be Two or three miles long wide which by being so large we never want water to suply all the Works & Bring the wood Coal & Logs all Down by Water which Saves a great Deal of Cartage which no Works in Jersey have such Conveniency we can by such means do more with One Team than Others with Four Teams and there is never no Danger of the want of wood as all Round this Lake is plenty of timber which no one can make use of But the works at the Head of the Lake Pond I have a Neck of Land with the best Swamp not Cleared and the most Timber that Ever I saw |
On a piece of Ground about 10 Acres, I have—
another about 12 acres on the Bond part Cleared about 75 Acres Lying at the Saw mill Good Plow Land & 11 arews of Swamp Cleared which Cuts now the Best English Hay then their is 20 Acres on the Neck were Cheif the Building is on good Land their can be 200 Cattle Keept in the summer—& 1000 ^sheep Pasturd N. 1 the House 50 by 30 Built with a L[einter?] 2 _ The Forge 30 by 40 [Bri]tan America 4 fires 2 hammers 3 . Cole Houses 30 by 30 __ne Building 4 – a Barn 40 x 50 __tch Barn very well built 5 a Small House 14 by __ were the manager Lives 6 a Granery 14 by 12 w[it]h Pedigeon House on the top 7 a House / 30 by 15 f[or] the workmen 8 a Do [ditto] 40 by 15 for Do—-- 9 a Saw mill 40 by 12 the strongest I ever saw 10 a Grist mill 20 by 20 Suplys the House wh. Bread 11 a Large Stone 14 by 12 Smokehouse 12 a Black smith Shop 16 by 14-- 13 a Log House 12 mile Distant – from the House Some small Cabins up the pond on the Land |
